Tips For A Quick and Easy Move Out From College

I graduate on May 16th, and I will be moving most of my stuff home the same day. My lease technically does not end until the end of July, but I am starting summer school four days after I graduate and working full time at a summer day camp, so I am not going to have much time to come back and pack everything up. I've put together a few tips that have helped me prepare for this move out in order to make my graduation day a helluva lot less stressful.

1. Plan Ahead. If you live in the south, chances are winter is over for you by spring break. Pack up all of your winter stuff minus some sweatshirts and a fleece jacket, and take it home during spring break. It will get a lot of unnecessary stuff out of your room quicker. I also usually go home the weekend before exams start because it is Mother's Day. So my plan is to pack up most of my clothes and take them home then.

2. While we are on the subject of packing clothes, I have found the absolute easiest way to transport your closet using a garbage bag.

I just buy some cheap trash bags from the dollar store and do this to my clothes. Then when you get to your new place, all you have to do is rip off the bag!

3. Color Code. Buy different color rolls of duct tape to label boxes depending on their destination. Since I am moving to my parent's house, I have one color for home, one for storage, and one for items going to GoodWill. You could also do this for different rooms in a house.

4. Use ziploc bags for little pieces and tape them to the piece of furniture they go with. We all know that Ikea furniture comes with a thousand little pieces, and this will keep you from losing them all. I also usually label the bag for the piece of furniture it goes with, just in case it gets separated from it's companion.

5. Invest in some zip ties. I came across these in my desk drawer a few days ago and wondered why I had even bought these. As it turns out, I had use for them two days later. The way my room is set up, I have to have a really long cable cord to reach from the wall to my TV. I was taking this cord down earlier today, and I wondered how I was going to roll it up and keep in from coming unraveled. Bingo. Those zip ties

I hope you all have an awesome week. I am worn out and so tired of writing papers and studying for exams!
